Miyazaki: Sony Wanted Something New

One of the biggest announcements made by Sony at the E3 2014 Press Conference was the partnership with From Software and Hidetaka Miyazaki, known as the creator of Demon/Dark Souls, for an exclusive PlayStation 4 project: Bloodborne.
Today, Japanese website 4Gamer.net published a two-pages long interview with Miyazaki and, as expected, the main topic of discussion is Bloodborne. Miyazaki clarified that the project was never intended to be Demon’s Souls 2, with Sony approaching him to create something brand new with PlayStation 4 hardware.
This project actually started out with the proposal to make something new on new hardware.
SCE came to us. I think it was around the time that development for Artorias of the Abyss Edition of Dark Souls settled down, and it was still before the initial PS4 announcement, but the idea of working on new hardware was very appealing to us, so we eagerly agreed.
Those of us actually working on the game never even considered making it Demon’s Souls 2. Even looking at it objectively, it does seem like a very SCE-like decision.
Miyazaki then explained that he was not involved with Dark Souls 2 also because he was busy with the Artorias DLC, but apparently this all turned out for the best as he’s having “a lot of fun” with Bloodborne.
Partially because development on Artorias of the Abyss Edition and Dark Souls II was going on simultaneously, I was kind of removed from the development of Dark Souls II and then I began work on Bloodborne. As it turns out, I’m having a ton of fun working on it, too.
There’s a lot more, but our trusty translator is now sleeping so you’ll have to wait to read the rest; credits for the above translation go to user Zefah of Neogaf.
