[RUMOR]Sony Interested In Buying Crytek?

Insider Tidux just released a possibly huge rumor in a series of tweets. In the last few days, there have been rumors in the industry from multiple sources indicating that Crytek might be in serious trouble, and Tidux seems to have heard that Sony is considering whether to buy the company.

As he said himself, this is just a rumor for now, although he claimed to have heard this from multiple sources.

Still, it would be a pretty big deal. What do you think about it? Should Sony do it? Let us know your opinion below!

that would rock, actual stories behind all those pretty graphics!!!!

  • Joe Wright

No fuck no, They should buy Capcom! CAPCOM! The other company that has just been made available. Resident Evil, Megaman, Street Fighter, Devil May Cry, Dragons Dogma, Monster Hunter ALL SYSTEM SELLING FRANCHISES WOULD BE THERES! FUCK CRYTEK!

    • Not_true

Capcom isn’t “for sale” any more than any other company that someone can buy a majority (50%+) share in. That’s called a “hostile takeover”. Businesses generally don’t do that when they can negotiate a sale instead.

      • Joe Wright

Never said they were for sale only that they are now AVAILABLE -.-’ Regardless blowing money on Crytek now and having to pay their debts is stupid and they have no good IP’s besides Timesplitters, where as at least a hostile takeover of Capcom would give tons of system selling IP’s

        • Negi Springfield

Would be awesome if they bought one or some of Crytek`s IP , As you`ve mention , Timesplitters being one of them.. But yeah , I don`t think purchasing Crytek would be a smart move though… They already have Guerrilla Games….. CAPCOM is a good choice..

          • Joe Wright

Capcom has so many IP’s too, all of which can move consoles. Would be a smart move to take them over for Sony or Nintendo/MS. Oh well here’s hoping Sony is paying attention.

      • Russell Gorall

Chill out. He never said that.

  • Not_true

If Sony (or any company) was smart they’d wait for Crytek to go belly up then buy the IPs for cheap and hire the employees without taking on Crytek’s debt load.

    • Russell Gorall

What would Sony pay them with?

  • Leo Garcia

Sony has the most 1st party studios than ms – nintendo combined
    new studio is always welcome
but poor pc fangirls tho…they wont be able to throw crysis in comparison no more lul

    • twinspectre

now Crytek become important right ?
      Fanboys are just idiots

    • jazz

Google it microsoft now has more first party studios as of 2013. It takes one google to see. I do not know where you get your false information and combined at that wow.

      • Not_true

Sony has more 1st party studios that actually make console games, and studios working on multiple games/IPs.

MS has a bunch of “studios” that do nothing but smartphone, apps, and “cloud networking”.

1st/2nd party studios include Japan Studio, Polyphony Digital, Naughty Dog, SCE Bend, SCE San Diego, SCE Santa Monica, Sucker Punch, Pixel Opus, Evolution Studios, Guerrilla Games, Guerrilla Cambridge, SCE London, Media Molecule, Insomniac, Ready at Dawn, Quantic Dream, etc.

        • Jessika S.

Remove one (Insomniac) they don’t belong to Sony and they are making an exclusive game for Microsoft right now (Sunset Overdrive).

          • Not_true

2nd party is a flexible term. They’re still making exclusive games for Sony too.

            • Russell Gorall

              How much does Sony pay?

              • Not_true

Another microsoft shill replying to facts and reality by flinging feces like an animal.

A company in financial trouble (Sony) looking to buy another company in financial trouble? No.

    • Not_true

Sony has revenue of $75+ billion yearly, $149+ billion in total assets, and $27+ billion in total equity. They are still one of the largest corporations in the world with 145,000+ employees and ranked #94 on the Fortune 500 2013. They have 17-18 billion in current cash reserves.

All these ignorant, delusional, constantly wrong microsoft shills thinking Sony is some tiny broke corporation about to go bankrupt next week. LOL

      • ASSASSYN

Ah you poor kid, you are clearly oblivious aren’t you. Assets does not always mean cash on hand and in fact sony has 7.99 billion dollars f cash on hand. A car is an asset op if owned by sony. A coke machine, building, office supplies, manufacturing machinery, a freaking desk. All of that are assets. Only kids think that means dollars.

You must have missed the 1.1 billion dollar loss sony reported may 2014. Yeah, that flew past your radar. That so called 17-18 cash reserve claim… yeah that is a fabrication. In 2013 sony’s reserves were approximately 13.7 billion dollars. But magically according to you they went significantly up,made spite their recent announcement of a loss. Ignorant, delusional. Constantly wrong is right. Oh, and microsoft’s cash reserve is a little under $85 billion according to forbes.

So 7.99 billion of cash on hand by sony, with a 12.52 billion debt, revenue before expenses 78.2 billion with a loss of 1.1 billion. Do the math high speed. That means operating cost, which includes paying their workforce, translated into a loss of 71.09 billion dollars. Yeah, I read the same source you did. The difference is I did not ignore the negative parts like you did to avoid the truth.

        • Not_true

LOL you’re utterly delusional and full of hatred. You are literally making things up and lying. You don’t understand the difference between “total assets” and “cash reserves/on hand”. You point to yearly losses as if that has anything to do with how much money they have on hand to spend, etc.

It’s sad PS4 is dominating so badly that hateful, delusional microsoft fanboy shills are left desperately wishing Sony would go bankrupt. Keep dreaming, it’s not happening.

Sony has more than enough money to straight up buy 50% of Capcom shares, or Crytek, or any dev short of the titans like Activision, EA, Ubisoft, etc.

  • Russell Gorall

What money are they going to use?

    • Not_true

I’m constantly stating facts and reality, you’re a delusional fanboy lying to fuel your hatred and desire to see a company go bankrupt.

Typical sick in the head microsoft shills cheerleading and celebrating other people’s misfortune and spreading lies and hate.

        • Not_true

More sick in the head lies by you. It’s rare to see such a hate filled fanboy spreading lies to fuel their delusional hatred of a corporation.

“lol, sony just sold it’s square stock for 48 million USD profit. All the sony kiddies think it is wonderful news. Lmao! It is nothing remotely near wonderful news. It is desperation to keep the doors open.”

“70% chance of bankruptcy in two years and holding. Credit reduced to junk status, and sony has more debt on hand than revenue to pay that debt when it is due. Yeah they are just restructuring lol.”

“Sony is in deep finical trouble. They do not have the revenue to pay debts when those debts come due. They have sold their PC division, and are hemorrhaging engineers who are fleeing a sinking ship.”

“All of you Sony kids can hate on the x1 all you want. Not like any of you are preoccupied with games at the current moment.”

You said “well said” to some deranged misterxmedia cultist babbling about magical esram move engines.

You constantly reference microaxis as if it means anything important.

Doesn’t sound right at all, from what I looked up.

  • Im_On_a_Drug_Called_Charlie_Sh

I’m a die hard Sony fan but even I can say, where are they going to get the money?

    • Not_true

17-18 billion in current cash reserves?

      • Russell Gorall

        Compared to “current cash owed”?

Please answer, your stocks are waiting.

        • Not_true

Sony could pay off its debts and still have billions left debt free.

Another microsoft shill replying to facts and reality by flinging feces like an animal.

      • ASSASSYN

Lie. Sony has $8.08 billion. http://www.forbes.com/companies/sony/

        • Not_true

It’s sad that Microsoft fanboy shills are so desperate that their only hope is for Playstation to disappear completely instead of continuing to dominate in sales.

Sony is selling or splitting off their lossy businesses (Vaio, TVs) and focusing on their profitable divisions. This means they’ll soon cut their losses and start turning a profit. You should be worried if Sony WASN’T cutting those losing divisions, but they’re making the right business decisions. They won’t ever be an empire again but they aren’t going under.

The gaming division and first party studios are well funded, are in a net profit, and working on PS4 games. During the quarter ending 31st December 2013 the Game business made a profit of $172m off the back of an impressive 64.6 per cent rise in sales year on year. Sony is in for a year or two of losses and restructuring, then provided their profitable divisions stay profitable, they’ll be on solid ground.

Sony is still worth 18.5 billion (in market cap). They just aren’t bringing in enough revenue or profits to bring that number up, and for a time, and probably for a few quarters here or there for the next few years, they might lose money. They also obviously have working capital, because they have games in development right now, and are able to market their newest system and do what they have to do to sell their products. If Sony were on the brink of bankruptcy, we wouldn’t be seeing AAA game announcements with budgets ranging from $50-100 million dollars. If they were on the brink of bankruptcy, they wouldn’t be buying Gaikai, or investing in new tech such as Morpheus or the PS4. PS4 will make a net profit, and Sony won’t go bankrupt.

Sony Game, Financial Services, Devices, Music, Mobile Products & Communications, and Pictures are all profitable divisions. They aren’t going anywhere, sorry.

Sony’s market cap is 18.65 billion as of today (2014).
Market cap in 2013 was 17.6 billion it has gone up since then.
Sony is ranked #80 in world as the most valuable brand 2013.

Sony is ranked #506 in the global 2000
          #87 in Sales
          #171 in Assets
          #547 in Market value
78.52 billion dollars in sales in 2013

          Sony Games Division FY 1995-2013:
          -9+57+117+137+77-51+83+113+68.2+43+9-232-125-58-56+48.2+29+2-8 = 244 billion yen net profit

Yes the games division is still a NET PROFIT even after the PS3 losses, PS1 and PS2 were just that successful.

Sony still has over 18 billion in cash reserves, the loss they have is large no doubt about this, was already set aside in restructuring costs, by doing this now they are going to be saving in over 1 billion in costs! This takes time, and in that time if Sony did not do what the board has done it would have been far worse, over 2 billion in further losses.

The point is playstation stock is not for public buy in. Sony has over 148 billion in physical assets, sony could indeed liquidate every thing except for smart phones, entertainment and playstation and still have paid off debt, and still have 18 billion on hand to invest back into the three core pillars of the company.

LOLing hard again at the $0N¥ Pauperdesperation.

  • andy

Isn’t this the guy that was told to shut up by Naughty Dog as knowing absolutely nothing? Oh yeah that guy. Would be a bad move for Sony as I would continue to not buy a single game from them since Far Cry. Up there with the most top 10 overrated Devs ever.

  • Dennis Crosby

Not going to happen and would be a waste of money. Who honestly wants another Crysis . Homefront is already locked up for Multi platforms, and most likely Crytek is about to sell the Ryse IP to Microsoft so that would leave Sony with graphic engine ,Crysis, and the MOBA game that’s coming out. If they want the engine ok but still that money could go toward build more games from they establish IPs they already own

  • XanderZane

Sony can’t afford to buy any new studios at this point. There are rumors that other companies were looking to buy them as well, not just Sony. Rumors about SEGA being bought too. lol!! Take all of it with a grain of salt.

  • FAT MAN GO BOOM

Yeas it would be a great idea and yes sony can afford them they will be in the black next year and that is the money they are spending they can’t afford not to buy them or let MS have them…

  • Virdin Barzey

Sony should be focus on getting out of that huge hole they burned in their pocket. They are making good money with the PS4, no need to be buying anything with that insurmountable lead over the competition. Stupid business decision to buy this company. That’s why it probably isn’t going to happen to the dismay of several gamers.

    • FAT MAN GO BOOM

Crytek is more then just a game developer not only to you pick up a lot of popular IP rights you get their SDK division as well… Cryengine 3 is pretty solid tech. And sony and western style shooters need help…

they have only cracked the market with Killzone series name another Sony owned FPS company… and Now with GG making RPG game there is room for expansion for them…

Cryteks Engines and Middleware rights are solid I think Cryteks Problem was expanding to fast and buying up IPs they did not need…

  • Toomuchhypeforthis

    Yeaaah, no.
Crytek, wouldn’t let Sony buy them.

  • pterois

Crytek would be better with EA, Sony would gain a lot if Capcom’s IPs were to become available as capcom outsources most of it’s titles anyways and Sony has many talented studios that could create amazing games out of them.

  • IToldYouSoAlready

Sony are in so much financial trouble, maybe CAPCOM will end up buying them!
