Porting Planetside 2 UI To PS4 “An Enormous Undertaking”
In a two pages long interview MMORPG.com got from PAX East, SoE’s Creative Director for Planetside 2, Matthew Higby, gave an update on the PlayStation 4 port.
The bad news is that he still wouldn’t commit to a specific date, even though the game was supposed to come out in early 2014, as we reported back in October. Strangely enough, it seems like one of the main issues and possibly reasons for the delay has to do with adapting Planetside 2 UI to PlayStation 4′s needs, which Higby described as an enormous undertaking.
We haven’t really talked about any dates externally yet, but it will be sometime this year. The biggest thing we’re doing is going through and making sure it’s optimized and running perfectly on the PS4 hardware and then making sure all the UI gets converted over to make sure it works well with the console control. Especially for PlanetSide, PlanetSide is an MMO behind an FPS game, so it has all the UI and all the character advancement screens that an MMO has, and so getting all of those to fit on a console is an enormous undertaking.
The good news, though, is that PS4 gamers will be able to enjoy an even better game when it finally launches on Sony’s latest console. There are many updates planned, including an all new continent (Hossin) and the ability for Outfits (Clans in Planetside 2) to capture bases and gain benefits from them.
