AC4 Black Flag had “shared multiplayer”; it got cut
Since Watch Dogs was just delayed, Ubisoft‘s only heavyweight for this holiday season will be AC4 Black Flag, scheduled to release later this month for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and WiiU while PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will get the game at launch and PC between 19 (NA) and 22 (EU) November.
An interesting tidbit we just discovered is that AC4 Black Flag originally had some form of “shared multiplayer”, which seems to be the trend for most next generation titles, but unfortunately the feature got cut due to the need to ship the game soon; this was revealed by Lead Game Designer Jean-Sebastien Decant during an interview with OPM.
Actually, in terms of multiplayer and shared world, they are things we had to deal with, and even cut, on this game. First, the present day was supposed to be exactly what you’re talking about. So the Animus next to yours would have been your friend on PSN. And after that we had to make decisions to show that we could ship the game and make it the best possible and so it was dropped. We also wanted to have Naval battles and we’re still dreaming of that but… yeah. I think Assassin’s Creed is totally relevant for this kind of experience.
It seems like it would be interesting to say the least, not to mention relevant to Assassin’s Creed’s lore. Naval battles would have been cool as well.
Regardless, are you hyped for AC4 Black Flag? Tell us in the comments!
