Gamescom to have unannounced games from KONAMI and 2K
Some rumors are floating around about an unannounced game from 2K to be shown at Gamescom. I can not only confirm that such a thing exists, but I’ll be able to get my hands on it and report my impressions, which seems to suggest that the game is already in a playable state and perhaps not too far from release.
The most likely candidate for the title is XCOM: Enemy Within, first appeared a few days ago on the South Korean ratings board website. If that is not the case, however, two other possibilities are either Mafia 3 or Top Spin 5 – both could be in the works at 2K Czech (previously Illusion Softworks), seeing as the last entries in the series were developed by the studio and published in 2010 and 2011, respectively.
That’s not everything, anyway. I can confirm that Konami will have an unannounced game to show as well. This is a little harder to speculate, but just last week there have been some interesting comments by Mercury Steam‘s producer Dave Cox, who said that in order for Contra to make a comeback, it would have to be a lot more than a generic shooter; adding to the speculation there’s a recent trademark by Konami for something called Contra: Run and Gun, so this could very well be the next game to be developed by Mercury Steam after they are done with Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2.
If that is not the case, we could be looking at another Silent Hill, perhaps; I’d add Zone of the Enders to the speculation, but that would be announced at TGS instead. Of course, for both 2K Games and Konami we can’t rule out entirely new IPs, but somehow that does not seem likely – both companies have plenty already to choose from.
Remember that you can actively inquire about the titles we’ll be checking at Gamescom right here.
