The Witcher 3 doesn’t have QTEs, says CD Projekt RED
In a long interview with ClickOnline, Lead Gameplay Designer Maciej Szcześnik confirmed that QTEs are definitely out of The Witcher 3, having been replaced in the fist fights minigame by a new system. I’m pretty sure the news will please the fierce haters of this widespread mechanic.
As mentioned, QTEs are gone, but that doesn’t mean fist fights have met the same fate. In a way, they constitute an important, immersive part of the night life in the game world. Plus, mini-games are a good way of letting players take a short breather from questing, should they need one. We’ve replaced QTE mechanics in these fist fights with a new system, one that gives more control to the player. They will still be brutal and challenging, that’s for sure.
The Witcher 3 is one of the most hyped RPGs in development right now, thanks to the great success earned by the first two games. The Witcher 3 has also been confirmed by CD Projekt RED to be the last game in the trilogy; the Polish developer also has another greatly anticipated title under development, Cyberpunk 2077, although that is expected to hit release status later than The Witcher 3, which is scheduled for 2014.
We’ll be taking a look at Geralt’s last adventure during Gamescom, and hopefully we should also be able to bring you an interview. As always, stay tuned at Worlds Factory.
