Dark Horse releases Plants vs. Zombies comic

Dark Horse Comics has partnered with PopCap Games to sprout the Plants vs. Zombies comic books.

Plants vs. Zombies comic

The story of the Plants vs. Zombies comic revolves around Crazy Dave assisting Patrice, his niece, and adventurer Nate Timely in fending off – you guessed it – “fun-dead” zombies.

Written by Authors Paul Tobin (Marvel AdventuresFalling Skies) and Ron Chan (The GuildHusbands), the Plants vs. Zombies six-issue miniseries will be available via digital download first. A hardcover book of all six issues titled Plants vs. Zombies: Lawnmageddon will invade comic shops on Nov. 6 and other bookstores Nov. 19.

Dark Horse has released the first and second issues today. To celebrate the launch, the first issue is not only free to download through July 21, the last of day of San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC), but Dark Horse has also created a standalone Plants vs. Zombies comic app for iOS devices. The app costs $0.99 and comes with the first issue of the comics.

The individual digital issues will release on the following dates:

  • Chapters 1–2: July 17, today
  • Chapter 3: July 24
  • Chapter 4: July 31
  • Chapter 5: Aug. 7
  • Chapter 6: Aug. 14

“We’re excited to see Plants vs. Zombies come to life as a comic book miniseries,” said Plants vs. Zombies franchise creative director at PopCap, Jeremy Vanhoozer. “With Plants vs. Zombies Adventures recently launched on Facebook, Plants vs. Zombies 2 becoming available for iPads, iPhones, and iPod Touch devices later this summer, and Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare shambling to market in spring of 2014, it’s a great time to give the millions of Plants vs. Zombies fans around the world a new way to enjoy this beloved franchise.”

If you are at SDCC, a limited edition print version of the first issue can be picked up at the Dark Horse booth (#2615) and the Plants vs. Zombies booth (#129).
