Wasteland 2 Retail Copies to be Published by Deep Silver

One of the more popular Kickstarted games, Wasteland 2, won’t only see the light of day through digital distribution, but will also get physical copies thanks to Deep Silver. This was announced today through the game’s developer inXile.

For those who don’t know, Wasteland 2 is a sequel to, well, Wasteland, a classic RPG from 1988. The Kickstarter was met with startling success, as the project was funded and raised nearly $3 Million dollars – more than 3 times it’s original goal of $900,000. inXile is also working on another title which was funded through Kickstarter and met with similar success, Torment: Tides of Numenera, however, there hasn’t been a formal announcement whether that will receive the same treatment by Deep Silver.

Fans of the indie studio shouldn’t worry about this publishing deal, inXile assures fans that all creative control will remain to the studio and that this deal is beneficial for all as the studio can focus more on the creative side of things whilst Deep Silver will just focus on the physical distribution of the title. Hopefully, this means that more people who don’t buy games digitally can get their hands on what looks like a very promising cRPG.

This is a perfect opportunity for inXile: it allows us to continue to focus all of our energy and money into the creative aspects of the game while letting Deep Silver take our game outside of the pure digital space. This has the added bonus of allowing us to spend more of the Kickstarter funds on development while continue to retain all ownership and control” – Brian Fargo, CEO inXile Entertainment

Hopefully, if this deal succeeds, we will see more publishers helping publish physical copies of games funded through Kickstarter and other crowd-sourcing websites.
